‘Oral’ Pilot Reading 6/17

Oral, a proposed dramedy series about a “not deaf enough” millennial woman “navigating adulthood and a chaotic love life” in 2007 Los Angeles, will stream a free hour-long staged reading of its pilot episode tomorrow, June 17, at 9 pm ET/PT over Zoom.

Oral TV show

The cast includes Emmy winner Andrea Martin (SCTV) and Emmy nominees Will Forte (The Last Man on Earth) and Abbi Jacobson (Broad City).

Juliet Perrell plays the lead character, Izzy.

Oral is based on co-writer Alexandra Dean Grossi’s personal experiences.

Perrell, Izzy and Grossi are all orally deaf with cochlear implants.

“On the margins of the deaf community because she didn’t use sign language, she [Grossi] found that she didn’t have any identifiable role models,” says Oral ‘s web site. “This lack of representation of ‘her kind of deafness’ in pop culture inspired Alexandra to write Oral.”
