Time-bending Spycraft

Arriving this weekend: Two action thrillers  – the Cold-War-flavored Without Remorse (Amazon Prime) and Christopher Nolan’s chronology-bending espionage tale Tenet (HBO Max).

Without Remorse (Friday, April 30)

Without Remorse stars Creed’s Michael B. Jordan as Sr. Chief John Kelly, aka John Clark, an elite Navy SEAL who uncovers an international conspiracy while pursuing the Russian soldiers who murdered his pregnant wife.

Working with a fellow SEAL (Jodie Turner-Smith) and a shadowy CIA agent (TURN’s Jamie Bell), Kelly exposes a plot that could engulf the U.S. and Russia in an all-out war.

The cast includes Lauren London, Brett Gelman, Jacob Scipio, Jack Kesy, Colman Domingo and Guy Pearce.

The film was written by Taylor Sheridan and Will Staples and directed by Stefano Sollima.

Without Remorse is based on Tom Clancy’s 1993 novel and is a Jack Ryan film series spin-off.

An Amazon Prime membership costs $12.99 month/$119 annually and includes the streaming service, free shipping and other benefits. An Amazon Video membership costs $8.99 a month just for the streamer. For more information, visit Amazon.

Tenet (Saturday, May 1)

Tenet, which made its tentative pandemic-era theater debut last September, premieres on HBO Max.

Christopher Nolan writes and directs this this blend of spycraft and science fiction.

A secret organization called Tenet recruits a CIA operative known as The Protagonist (John David Washington) to prevent Andrei Sator (Kenneth Branagh), a renegade Russian oligarch with precognition abilities, from starting World War III. The Protagonist must master “time inversion” to successfully fulfill his mission.

The cast includes Robert Pattinson, Elizabeth Debicki, Dimple Kapadia and Michael Caine.

HBO Max costs $14.99 a month. For more, visit HBOMax.com.
