‘The Best of Bugs Bunny’

Love Bugs Bunny? You’ll want to wake up early next week (or set your DVR) for “The Best of Bugs Bunny” on Toon in With Me, MeTV’s 7 am ET weekday showcase for classic theatrical cartoons.

Each day will have a theme, plus guests including Jeff Bergman (voice of Bugs Bunny in the upcoming Space Jam: A New Legacy), Jerry Beck (cartoon historian), Billy West (voice of Bugs Bunny in 1996’s Space Jam), Robert McKimson Jr. (son of Looney Tunes director Robert McKimson), and Ruth Clampett (daughter of Looney Tunes director Bob Clampett).

Monday, May 3: ‘Rabbit Tracks’

See Bugs Bunny develop from his white prototype, Happy Rabbit, to the familiar gray rabbit by watching Porky’s Hare Hunt (1938), Prest-O Change-O (1939), Hare-Um Scare-Um (1939), A Wild Hare (Oscar nominee, 1940) and Elmer’s Candid Camera (1940).

Tuesday, May 4: ‘Of Course You Realize This Means War’

See Bugs and his biggest adversaries in Wabbit Twouble (1941), Duck! Rabbit, Duck! (1953), Wild and Wooly Hare (1959), Hare-Way to the Stars (1959), and Devil May Hare (1954).

Wednesday, May 5: ‘Ballads for a Bunny’

Looney Tunes incorporates music and opera in Rhapsody Rabbit (1946), Long-Haired Hare (1949), Rabbit of Seville (1950), Baton Bunny (1959), and What’s Opera, Doc? (a National Film Registry inductee,1957). (For more on Bugs Bunny and music, see our story on Looney Tunes composer Raymond Scott.)

Thursday, May 6: ‘Hollywood Bugs’

Decades before Roger Rabbit, in which Bugs appeared, our favorite rabbit first mixed toons with showbiz life in Slick Hare (1947), What’s Cookin’ Doc? (1944), A Star is Bored (1956), A Hare Grows in Manhattan (1947), and What’s Up, Doc? (1950).

Friday, May 7: ‘Wascally Winners’

The best Bugs Bunny cartoons as voted online by viewers include Little Red Riding Rabbit (1944), Bully for Bugs (1953), Hillbilly Hare (1950) and Baseball Bugs (1946). The #1 choice, though, has not been revealed in advance.

MeTV also runs classic Bugs cartoons Saturday mornings from 9 to 10 am during Bugs Bunny and Friends.
