‘Seaside Hotel’ Season 7

As thoughts turn to summer – and summer vacations –  Walter Presents: Seaside Hotel (Badehotellet) opens a six-episode seventh season today, March 12, on Amazon Prime’s add-on channel PBS Masterpiece.

Seaside Hotel is a cross between Downton Abbey and Agatha Christie. The story starts in the 1920s when an 18-year-old (Rosalind Mynster) takes a job as chambermaid at a rural beach hotel in Denmark. Ignoring her father’s warnings, she mingles with the guests, learning the secrets that belie the idyllic setting around her.

It’s now the summer of 1940, the Germans have taken over Denmark, and guests return to the hotel to get away from the grim reality of Nazi occupation.

Amanda (Amalie Dollerup) and Philip (Sigurd Holmen le Dous), who took over the hotel a year earlier, look forward to welcoming the regulars, but there’s no escaping the invaders. Will they comply with German demands or shut the hotel early for the season?

The cast also includes Lars Ranthe, Anne Louise Hassing, Merete Mærkedahl, Jens Jacob Tychsen, Ulla Vejby and Anette Støvelbæk.

Seaside Hotel is in Danish with English subtitles.

The eighth season is currently airing on Denmark’s TV 2. No word as to when it will come to the PBS Masterpiece streamer.

Amazon Prime and Prime Video subscribers can get PBS Masterpiece for an additional $5.99 a month following a seven-day free trial.

An Amazon Prime membership costs $12.99 month/$119 annually and includes the streaming service, free shipping and other benefits. An Amazon Video membership costs $8.99 a month just for the streamer. For more information, visit Amazon.

The first season of Seaside Hotel recently arrived on local PBS stations. Dues-paying PBS Passport members ($60 or more a year) can stream those episodes on-demand. For more, visit pbs.org/passport/videos.
