Fame’s Gonna Live Forever!

Calling all Fame fans!

Debbie Allen, who was in both the 1980 movie and subsequent TV series, Erica Gimpel (TV series) and Laura Dean (movie) will join Samantha Bee, Jason Jones, Isaac Mizrahi, and current students from what was once called just the High School of Performing Arts for Fame 4.0 — a free 40-minute 40th anniversary benefit streaming tonight, February 11, at 7 pm ET.

New York’s High School of Performing Arts was the setting for the popular movie and TV series.

To view Fame 4.0, go to lagfame40.com at 7 pm tonight.

The event will benefit the nonprofit Alumni & Friends of Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts

You can expect other special guests and, of course, a performance of the movie’s infectious Oscar-winning title song.

You can stream the original Fame movie for free if your library is part of the Hoopla network, or rent it from $2.99 at various providers.

The Fame franchise also includes a TV series and a movie remake.

The TV series debuted in 1982 and ran for 136 episodes over six seasons, the first two on NBC and the others in syndication. You can currently stream only the NBC seasons; they’re available for $14.99 each from Amazon.

The 2009 remake, with Debbie Allen in a supporting role, is available with a Cinemax add-on subscription to Amazon Prime or Hulu, and as a $3.99 rental from various providers.

There is also a theatrical production, first performed in 1987, that was filmed in the UK for a 2020 release. You can stream Fame: The Musical with a Broadway HD subscription.
