‘As Time Goes By’ Reunions

The PBS Masterpiece streaming service will add the final two “Reunion Specials” of As Time Goes By, tomorrow, January 26.

The specials, which aired originally in December 2005 on BBC One, served as the unofficial denouement for the romantic sitcom.

The British series, which ran for 67 episodes over 10 seasons, revolves around two former lovers, Jean Pargetter (Dame Judi Dench) and Lionel Hardcastle (the late Geoffrey Palmer), who by chance cross paths again and decide to reunite.

In the specials, son-in-law Alistair (Philip Bretherton) and daughter Judy (Moira Brooker) visit, prompting Jean to express her desire for grandchildren. They are joined by their other daughter Sandy (Jenny Funnell) and her husband Harry (Daniel Ryan) who have returned from Canada. Judy’s relationship with Alistair is looking a bit rocky, so perhaps Sandy and Harry can make Jean’s wish true?

Amazon Prime and Prime Video subscribers can get PBS Masterpiece for an additional $5.99 a month following a seven-day free trial.

Incidentally, Britbox is the exclusive streaming host for the other 65 episodes of As Time Goes By. Britbox costs $6.99 month with a seven-day free trial. You can subscribe directly to Britbox or, as with PBS Masterpiece, pay for it as an Amazon Prime add-on channel.

The Master Butcher

As we previously reported, the four-episode German series, The Master Butcher, lands on PBS Masterpiece this Friday, January 29.

Based on Louise Erdrich’s 2013 American novel, The Master Butchers Singing Club, the story involves a German butcher and former military sniper (Jonas Nay, Deutschland) who moves himself, his wife (Leonie Benesch) and child to North Dakota following World War I.
