Cartoons, Crimes, Crises

Tomorrow, January 21, HBO Max will add new seasons of shows involving Warner Bros.’ popular animated characters (Looney Tunes Cartoons), a crime cartel (Gomorrah) and millennial angst (Perfect Life).

Or, if you’re in a cooking mood, there’s also season two of Selena + Chef.

Looney Tunes Cartoons, season two

Looney Tunes Cartoons will debut a second 10-episode season starring Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Tweety (all voiced by Eric Bauza), Elmer Fudd and Sylvester (Jeff Bergman), Porky Pig (Bob Bergen), Road Runner (Paul Julian), Wile E. Coyote, and others from the Warners cartoon family.

Each 12-minute episode is divided into two shorts. In one episode, Taz, aka the Tasmanian Devil, faces off with Bugs in a Roman coliseum. In other segments, Bugs encounters a leprechaun and Cecil Turtle.

The first 10-episode season landed on HBO Max in May 2020, with an additional Bugs Bunny’s 24-Carrot Holiday Special premiering last month.

Gomorrah, season three

For decidedly more adult fare, you can also catch season three of the Italian crime drama Gomorrah.

The show, which ran in Italy for 48 episodes over four seasons from 2014 to 2019, stars Marco D’Amore as Ciro Di Marzio, who seeks to become the next boss of a drug syndicate.

In the 12-episode third season, Genny (Salvatore Esposito) ultimately rules over Naples and Rome, while two women — Annalisa (Cristina Donadio) and Patrizia (Cristiana Dell’Anna) – rise in the ranks. Meanwhile, Ciro partners with the ambitious, young Enzo (Arturo Muselli) to expand their reach beyond the borders of Naples and Italy.

The show is in Italian with English subtitles.

Perfect Life, season one

Perfect Life (Vida Perfecta) is a dramatic comedy from Spain about three 30-something women – Maria (Leticia Dolera), Esther (Aixa Villagrán) and Cristina (Celia Freijeiro) — whose life plans haven’t delivered happiness. So they go in search of alternatives that don’t necessarily conform to societal expectations.

The show is in Spanish with English subtitles.

A second season is slated to debut on HBO Max later this year.

Selena + Chef, season two

Selena Gomez returns for a second season in which celebrity chefs help her cook while highlighting different charities. This season’s culinary guest stars will include Aarti Sequeira, Curtis Stone, Evan Funke, Graham Elliot, JJ Johnson, Jordan Andino, José Andrés, Kelis Rogers, Marcela Valladolid and Marcus Samuelsson.

Three episodes drop on January 21, followed by three more January 28 and the final three on February 4.

HBO Max costs $14.99 a month, with a seven-day free trial.
