The fourth season of Search Party; a feature film, Locked Down; and a reality cooking series, The Event, all debut tomorrow, January 14, on HBO Max.
Search Party, a comedy thriller about a group of friends searching for their missing former college acquaintance, debuts its fourth 10-episode season, Thursday on HBO Max.
The first three episodes debut tomorrow, followed by three more on Thursday, January 21 and the final four on Thursday, January 28.
The show, which launched on TBS in 2016 and moved to HBO Max in 2020 for season three, stars Alia Shawkat as the milquetoast Dory, who assembles her 20-something friends to find Chantal. Self-described narcissist Elliott (John Early), actress Portia (Meredith Hagner) and spineless Drew (John Reynolds) help with the investigation. Dory’s ex-boyfriend Julian (Brandon Micheal Hall), a journalist, also lends his expertise.
In season four, Dory is now the missing person – prisoner of a psychotic stalker (Cole Escola). Meanwhile, Portia has a starring movie role, Elliott is a far-right talk show host, and Drew works in costumes at a theme park. When the friends figure out that Dory is off the radar, they must decide whether to form another search party.
You can also watch season one via free library streamer Hoopla (check with your local branch to see if it participates). Individual episodes from seasons one and two are available to buy for $1.99 from Google Play, Vudu or other providers.
HBO Max tomorrow also debuts Locked Down, a romantic crime caper from Warner Bros. Pictures and AGC Studios.
The film stars Anne Hathaway and Chiwetel Ejiofor as a couple about to separate who are forced into mandatory lockdown together. After imbibing too much wine and poetry, the two plan a jewelry heist.
The cast includes Stephen Merchant, Mindy Kaling, Lucy Boynton, Dulé Hill, Jazmyn Simon, Ben Stiller and Ben Kingsley.
A four-episode culinary series, The Event, also gets cooking on Thursday.
The show goes behind the scenes of famed restaurateur Wolfgang Puck’s catering company as his team prepares for some of the industry’s most exclusive events. Each episode focuses on a different high-profile engagement, including the SAG Awards and HBO’s Westworld premiere party, offering a glimpse at the scope of these enormous undertakings.
HBO Max costs $14.99 a month, with a seven-day free trial.
