Oh, that we could always see
Such spirit through the year”

Dolly Parton, Mariah Carey and the Peanuts gang will light up the season with new and classic holiday specials.

On the heels of a hit album, A Holly Dolly Christmas, and a new book, Dolly Parton Songteller, country superstar Parton was thrust into the news this week for her role in developing a Covid-19 vaccine. Parton also has two holiday TV events coming up, one a movie musical on Netflix, the other a song-filled special on CBS/CBS All Access.

Dolly Parton’s Christmas on the Square will debut on Netflix this Sunday, November 22. The 98-minute film, with 14 new Parton songs, stars Christine Baranski (CBS All Access’ The Good Fight) as a cold-hearted woman trying to sell her hometown’s land – and evict all its residents on Christmas Eve. Parton plays “Angel,’ and the cast also includes Jenifer Lewis and Treat Williams. Debbie Allen directed.

A Holly Dolly Christmas will air Sunday December 6 at 8:30 pm ET/8 pm PT on CBS, with streaming via CBS All Access. Prepare to hear “faith-filled hymns and light-hearted holiday classics,” in addition to tracks from Parton’s album of the same title.

Here’s Parton on CBS’ Late Show with Stephen Colbert a month ago:

On the new album, Parton sings one song with Colbert’s late-night competitor, NBC’s Jimmy Fallon: a cover of pop superstar Mariah Carey’s All I Want for Christmas is You.

And yes, Mariah too has a new TV special coming up!

Mariah Carey’s Magical Christmas Special will debut Friday, December 4, on Apple TV+: “Faced with a holiday cheer crisis, the North Pole knows there’s only one person who can save the day: Santa’s great friend, Mariah Carey…. The undisputed Queen of Christmas jumps into action to create a holiday spectacular to make the whole world merry.”

The merrymakers will include Tiffany Haddish, Billy Eichner, Ariana Grande, Jennifer Hudson, Snoop Dogg, Jermaine Dupri, Misty Copeland and, in animated segments, Apple TV+’s newest stars, the “Peanuts Gang.”

Speaking of “Peanuts,” A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving debuted yesterday on Apple TV+, with A Charlie Brown Christmas coming on Friday, December 4.

You’ll also be able to see A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving this Sunday, November 22, on PBS and PBS Kids at 7:30 pm ET, and for free on Apple TV+ from Wednesday, November 25, through Friday, November 2.

A Charlie Brown Christmas will stream free on Apple TV+ from Friday, December 11, through Sunday, December 13, a day when it will also run on PBS and PBS Kids at 7:30 pm.
