Alex Trebek Tributes

(Above: Can you solve Buzzr’s ‘Concentration’ puzzle? Answer at bottom of story)

Buzzr and MeTV will honor the late Alex Trebek with free special programming.

Buzzr tomorrow, November 14, will run a marathon of three game shows Trebek hosted or appeared on in addition to his legendary stint on Jeopardy!: Card Sharks, Classic Concentration and To Tell the Truth.

MeTV today, November 13, will run sitcoms with Trebek playing himself: a 1987 episode of Mama’s Family and the never-to-be-forgotten 1990 episode of Cheers.

Buzzr’s 13½-hour game show marathon runs from 12:30 pm ET Saturday until 2 am.

MeTV’s one-hour sitcom tribute airs at 9 pm ET today, Friday.

On MeTV, Vicki Lawrence’s Thelma “Mama” Harper stars in “Mama on Jeopardy!” while know-it-all mailman Cliff Clavin plays Jeopardy! in the unforgettable Cheers episode, “What Is… Cliff Clavin?”

Back to Buzzer, Trebek, already at the helm of Jeopardy, hosted NBC’s Classic Concentration from 1987-1991. He also hosted NBC’s To Tell the Truth in 1991, making him the first person to host three game shows at the same time.

Here’s a Trebek-hosted episode of To Tell the Truth, featuring the daughter of one of The Three Stooges:

And here, thanks to the YouTube site of another game show legend, Wink Martindale, is the 1987 “test episode” of Classic Concentration:

In 1980, four years before he began on Jeopardy!, Trebek competed against Martindale and other game show hosts for a week on Card Sharks. Guess who won the tournament!
