Two ABC western fixtures of the late ‘50s to early ‘60s are getting more accessible, with a 24/7 channel of The Rifleman now up on Pluto TV and a Cheyenne binge weekend coming August 29-31 on Decades.
Developed by Sam Peckinpah (The Wild Bunch), who wrote and directed several early episodes, The Rifleman starred Chuck Connors as rancher Lucas McCain, single father of young Mark (Johnny Crawford) in 1880s’ New Mexico Territory.
The Rifleman, which produced 168 half-hour episodes over five seasons from 1958 to 1963, can now be seen non-stop for free over Pluto TV, channel 529.
You can also see any or all episodes free on demand over Crackle, Tubi, Vudu or IMDb TV, or watch free over the air via an antenna on MeTV, weekdays at 3 pm and 3:30 pm ET, and Saturdays at 5 pm and 5:30 pm (for your local MeTV channel number, visit the network’s Where to Watch page)
Cheyenne, TV’s first successful hour-long dramatic series and Warner Bros.’ television breakthrough, starred Clint Walker as Cheyenne Bodie, who wanders the West dispensing justice in the days following the Civil War.
Cheyenne, which produced 108 episodes over seven seasons from 1955 to 1962, will run for 43 hours straight during the Decades marathon, from noon ET Saturday, August 29, through 7 am Monday, August 31. ( Decades can be seen free over the air via an antenna; for your local channel number, visit the network’s Where to Watch page.)
You can also see any or all episodes free on demand with a Starz subscription (seven-day trial, then $8.99/month) or watch free over the air via an antenna on Heroes & Icons, every day but Sunday at 5 am ET (for your local H&I channel number, visit the network’s Where to Watch page.)
