LOL: Last One Laughing Australia, a comedy competition, and 7500, a mid-air thriller, debut today on Amazon Prime.

Try to Keep a Straight Face

Rebel Wilson hosts LOL: Last One Laughing Australia, a six-episode series in which 10 professional comedians face off to see who can make the other laugh first. The contestants are eliminated one-by-one until one stand-up remains, well, standing. The rules: one soft laugh receives a yellow card violation. A second results in a red card and elimination. There are 100,000 Australian dollars at stake.

Approved tactics include jokes as well as character, improvisational and physical comedy.

The Australian comedians include Dilruk Jayasinha, Frank Woodley, Nazeem Hussain, Anne Edmonds, Ed Kavalee, Becky Lucas, Joel Creasey, Nick Cody, Sam Simmons and Susie Youssef.

Wilson also co-executive-produced the show.

Episodes one and two are available now. New episodes will premiere weekly, with the finale scheduled for July 3.

LOL: Australia is an adaptation of Hitoshi Matsumoto Presents Documental, starring the Japanese comic who pits 10 fellow comedians against one another in a “battle of laughter behind closed doors.” In this version, the contestants must put up 1 million yen (about $9,300 US) for the chance to win 10 million yen (about $93,000 US). You can find three seasons, in Japanese with English subtitles, on Amazon Prime.

The Australian series was itself preceded by a Mexican version, hosted by Eugenio Derbez. You can find two seasons, in Spanish with English subtitles, also on Amazon Prime.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt Has a Bad Trip

7500, a 90-minute thriller about a hijacked plane, also lands today on Amazon Prime.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt is Tobias Ellis, an American co-piloting a Berlin-to-Paris flight hijacked by terrorists. Wounded in the attack, he nevertheless prevents the terrorists from entering the cockpit. The terrorists, in turn, threaten to kill the passengers unless he allows them back in to take control of the plane.

The cast includes Omid Memar, Murathan Muslu, and Aylin Tezel.

Patrick Vollrath directed and co-wrote the script with Senad Halibasic.
