In addition to clapping for health career workers at 7 pm, you can now also applaud specifically for The American Nurse, a 2014 feature documentary streaming free on demand through May from Kino Now.

Written and directed by Carolyn Jones, The American Nurse profiles five nurses in diverse specialties: Tonia Faust with maximum-security prison inmates, Jason Short with home health patients in Appalachia, Brian McMillion with soldiers returning from war, Naomi Cross with mothers giving birth, and Sister Stephen with nursing home patients at the end of life.

“Nurses matter,” declares The American Nurse Project, which in addition to the movie has also published a book that looks at 75 nurses, including those in the movie. The aim: “elevate the voice of nurses in this country.”
