Streaming Johnny Carson

NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson ruled late-night TV for 30 years (1962-1992), but has never streamed officially — until now.

Retitled as The Johnny Carson Show, Shout Factory TV has debuted 30 full-length free episodes grouped into three categories: “The Best Of Carnac The Magnificent,” “The Best Of George Carlin” and “Animal Antics With Joan Embery And Jim Fowler.”

“The Best of Carnac the Magnificent” includes seven episodes from 1979 to 1989 in which Carson appears as “the mystic from the east” who cleverly answers questions read by sidekick Ed McMahon from “hermetically sealed” envelopes.

Here’s a clip from the March 3, 1982 episode, which also features Harvey Korman telling a story about his Carol Burnett Show co-star Tim Conway taking his pants off in public:

“The Best of George Carlin” includes nine episodes from 1972 to 1988 featuring standup from the legendary comedian.

Here’s a clip from the February 29, 1972 episode, which also features Flip Wilson, Susan St. James and Ann Margret:

“Animal Antics With Joan Embery And Jim Fowler” includes 14 episodes from 1974 to 1990 in which the two animal experts bring their friends to visit Carson.

Here’s a clop of Embery from New Year’s Day, 1975:
