Netflix’s ‘Ragnarok’

Ragnarok will debut on Netflix this Friday, January 31. No, not Marvel’s 2017 Thor: Ragnarok superhero blockbuster, which is streaming on Disney+. Netflix’s offering is a six-episode coming-of-age drama from Scandinavia, which makes sense given the Ragnarok legend stems from Norse mythology.

The series is set in a small. present-day Norwegian town, where melting glaciers, warm winters, and violent downpours make it feel like the End Times – or Ragnorak – are near. Says Netflix: “It’ll take a legend to battle an old evil.” But don’t expect Chris Hemsworth — or Thor — to show up…

Ragnarok was written and created by Denmark’s Adam Price (Borgen). The youthful cast includes David Stakston, Jonas Strand Gravli, Theresa Frostad Eggesbø and Herman Tømmeraas.

Netflix will show the series in Norwegian, with English subtitles.
