Some Cash, More Parton

With the annual Country Music Awards (CMAs) a day away, why not spend some time learning more about two giants of the genre, Johnny Cash and Dolly Parton?

The Gift: The Journey of Johnny Cash dropped yesterday on YouTube. Created with the cooperation of Cash’s estate, this 90-minute documentary about the “Man in Black” features rare archival materials as well as interviews with family and collaborators.

You can stream the film free on the Johnny Cash YouTube channel, or right here:

Dolly Parton: Here She Comes Again! debuts today at 10 pm ET on ABC. Hosted by Good Morning America’s Robin Roberts, the one-hour special promises “never-before-seen archival interviews and performance footage,” as well as interviews with Bobby Bones, Luke Bryan, Hunter Hayes, Carrie Underwood and, of course, Dolly Parton.

It’s perhaps no coincidence that Parton will also be a “guest host” on tomorrow’s CMA Awards telecast, hosted by Underwood and airing on ABC from 8-11 pm.

Or maybe it’s just Parton’s month.

On November 22, an eight-episode scripted anthology series based on her songs – Dolly Parton’s Heartstrings — will debut on Netflix. (One episode, “Sugar Hill,” reunites Patricia Wettig and Timothy Busfield, who played wife and husband in the classic series Thirtysomething).

Then, on November 26, NBC will air Dolly Parton: 50 Years at the Grand Ole Opry from 9 to 11 pm. She’ll perform on the famous stage and be interviewed. Other performers will include Dierks Bentley, Emmylou Harris, Chris Janson, Toby Keith, Lady Antebellum, Margo Price and Hank Williams Jr.
