Halloween may be over, but subscription streamer Shudder keeps the scares coming with four films debuting today: Trick ‘r Treat, Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight, Session 9, and Wes Craven’s New Nightmare.
Trick ‘r Treat, a 2007 comedy horror, interweaves five Halloween night tales, including a high school principal who’s also a serial killer, a group of teenagers pulling a mean prank, and a mean old man who meets his match in a supernatural trick-or-treater. The large cast includes Anna Paquin, Brian Cox and Dylan Baker.
Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight is a 1995 feature spun off from the 1989-1996 HBO Tales from the Crypt series. It involves a man on the run from a demon named The Collector. The cast includes Billy Zane, Jada Pinkett, Thomas Haden Church and, of course, the Crypt Keeper.
Session 9, a 2001 horror mystery, centers around an asbestos cleaning crew working in an abandoned mental hospital with a horrific past. The cast includes David Caruso and Paul Guilfoyle.
Wes Craven’s New Nightmare is a 1994 sequel of sorts to the writer/director’s 1984 A Nightmare on Elm Street. Robert Englund returns as child killer Freddy Krueger, with his nemesis from the first film Heather Langenkamp playing herself in a story about the fictional movie villain trying to invade the real world.
Shudder costs $5.99 a month or $56.99 annually ($4.75/month),each with a seven-day free trial. For more info, including devices, visit shudder.com.
If you’re not a Shudder subscriber and are dying to see any of the four just-added films, Session 9 is also available to Starz subscribers and the other three films can be rented from $2.99 via providers like Amazon, YouTube, Google Play and others.
