What shows would kids recommend to other kids?
In our “Matt Chat” column, The Savvy Screener’s Laurie Pasiuk talks to her 11-year-old son Matthew about programs he likes to watch.
Today, Matt chats about the latest television incarnation of DuckTales (2017-Present), the cartoon comedy-adventure series starring trillionaire Scrooge McDuck (Good Omens’ David Tennant), along with grandnephews Huey (Community’s Danny Pudi), Dewey (Parks and Recreation’s Ben Schwartz), and Louie (SNL’s Bobby Moynihan). The cast also includes Tony Anselmo, who is the voice of nephew Donald Duck in both the latest and original DuckTales (1987-1990) series.
You can buy episodes from the first two seasons of DuckTales starting at $1.99 from Amazon, YouTube, Google Play and iTunes. (Season 3 is currently showing on The Disney Channel, which is available only via cable, telco and satellite providers.)
Laurie: Tell us a bit about ‘DuckTales.’
Matt: DuckTales is about Scrooge McDuck meeting his great nephews, Huey, Dewey and Louie. Their mom, Della Duck (Paget Brewster), who is also Donald Duck’s twin sister, used to be stuck in space. But now she’s home.
Laurie: So, who is your favorite character?
Matt: Louie, 100%. The guy in the green hoodie. He wears my favorite color and he’s lazy, just like me (Matt laughs). Basically, I think he is a duck version of me. And he likes money.
Laurie: What is your favorite episode?
Matt: I think it was toward the end of the second season. All the aliens thought that Della Duck just used them to build her ship. She told stories to the aliens about what Earth is like. The leader of the people on the moon was nice to her until he activated her ship and told her to leave. All of the aliens wanted to go to Earth with Della, but she had no time to bring them with her. After she left, the leader blasted himself with his gun to make it look like Della had attacked him.
Meanwhile, Donald Duck, who was sent on a cruise, saw Della’s ship crash on Earth. When he went to check on her, he accidentally blasted himself to the moon, where the aliens kept him hostage until they launched an attack on Earth. In the last episode, the aliens attacked Earth, but Scrooge McDuck figured out how to stop them with help from his rival Flintheart Glomgold (Keith Ferguson).
Laurie: Will there be more episodes with Della Duck?
Matt: I hope so!
