The internet’s most awkward celebrity chat show, Between Two Ferns, will debut as a mockumentary movie on Netflix this Friday, September 20.

In the aptly named Between Two Ferns: The Movie, comedian Zach Galifianakis returns as a fictional version of himself, the passive-aggressive host of a public access talk show.

In the Between Two Ferns web series, which debuted in 2008 on Funny or Die, Galifianakis somehow books big-name entertainment and political figures who parry his hostile, lazily ill-informed questions with barely concealed contempt. Perhaps out of a sense of professional obligation to help promote themselves, they don’t bolt from the set. Guests have included Barack Obama (pushing his health care plan) Hillary Clinton (running for president), Brad Pitt, Jennifer Aniston, Justin Bieber and others.

Between Two Ferns: The Movie, goes beyond the confines of the original show. The premise: Galifianakis becomes a big joke when comedian Will Ferrell discovers and uploads his show to Funny or Die. To restore his reputation, Galifianakis and crew take a road trip to record a series of high-profile celebrity interviews. The cast includes David Letterman, Benedict Cumberbatch, Rashida Jones, Keanu Reeves, Hailee Steinfeld, Brie Larson, Matthew McConaughey, Adam Scott, Tiffany Haddish, Jon Hamm and Peter Dinklage.

Scott Aukerman directed and co-wrote the script with Galifianakis.

Between Two Ferns has released webisodes sporadically over the past 11 years. You can stream them for free on Funny or Die and YouTube.
