Peter Fonda’s Best Free

Three of the late Peter Fonda’s most acclaimed films – Easy Rider, Ulee’s Gold and The Passion of Ayn Rand – can be streamed free from such services as Sony Crackle, Pluto TV and IMDb TV (formerly IMDb Freedive).

Easy Rider (1969)

Fonda received an Oscar nomination for co-writing this story of two motorcycling hippies (Fonda and Dennis Hopper) on a journey of discovery and tragedy. Credited with revolutionizing the movie industry through its independent production, embrace of the era’s counterculture, and rock-song soundtrack, Easy Rider Fonda also features Oscar-nominated Jack Nicholson in his breakout role.

Ulee’s Gold (1997)

Fonda won a Golden Globe and received another Oscar nomination for his Best Actor performance in the title role of a reclusive widowed beekeeper fighting to keep his dysfunctional family together.

The Passion of Ayn Rand (1999)

Fonda won a second Golden Globe – and received an Emmy nomination – for his Supporting Actor portrayal of the title author’s (Helen Mirren) cheated-upon husband in this Showtime movie.

Other nominated films

Fonda received two additional Golden Globe nominations – as Most Promising Newcomer – Male for 1963’s The Victors and as Best Actor in a TV Miniseries or Movie for a 1998 NBC version of The Tempest. Neither of those titles is currently streaming.

He also garnered a Daytime Emmy nomination for the lead role of a priest in a Showtime family movie, 2003’s Selma Hayak-directed The Maldonado Miracle.That film is now streaming on subscription service Hallmark Movies Now.
