Netflix will celebrate the classic comedy series Laugh-In with a star-studded special dropping this coming Tuesday, May 14. To watch the original series, though, you’ll need to subscribe to Amazon Prime, or watch it free over the air on Decades.
Officially titled Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In after its hosts, Dan Rowan and Dick Martin, the smash hit featured a non-stop barrage of short comedy bits, launched regulars Lilly Tomlin and Goldie Hawn to superstardom, and catapulted catchphrases like “sock it to me,” “here comes the judge” and “beautiful downtown Burbank” into the public consciousness.
Tomlin returns to headline Netflix’s Still Laugh-In: The Stars Celebrate, reviving such classic Laugh-In characters as little girl Edith Ann (“And that’s the truth”) and telephone operator Ernestine (“One ringy-dingy … two ringy-dingies”).
Each of the original one-hour episodes also featured cameos by several celebrities, but never as many as Netflix manages to cram into its one-hour special. In addition to Tomlin and fellow original cast members Ruth Buzzi and JoAnne Worley, the lineup includes:
Billy Crystal, Snoop Dogg, Tiffany Haddish, Chelsea Handler, Neil Patrick Harris, Taye Diggs, Michael Douglas, Jay Leno, Rita Moreno, Rita Wilson, Maria Bamford, Margaret Cho, Ron Funches, Nikki Glaser, Lisa Ann Walter, Mary McCormack, Bobby Moynihan, Cheri Oteri, Rob Riggle, Jeff Ross, J.B. Smoove, Tony Hale, Jon Lovitz, Natasha Leggero, Kenya Barris, Michael Rapaport, Jameela Jamil…and others.
Starting Tuesday, May 14, you can stream Still Laugh-In: The Stars Celebrate at Netflix.com/LaughIn.
You can stream all 140 episodes from Laugh-In’s six NBC seasons (1968-1973) now at Amazon Prime.
And you can watch Laugh-In on Decades weeknights at 7 pm ET. Decades can be seen free over the air via an antenna hooked up to your TV set. To find your local station, visit the channel’s “Where to Watch” page.
On Tuesday, incidentally, Decade’s Laugh-In episode will feature guests James Garner and Englebert Humperdinck, and a visit with the Infamous Farkel Family:
