Soul of the South Television, a free over-the-air channel targeting African-Americans, said it will add 100 movies from The Film Detective to its Soul Cinema Primetime and Soul Cinema Classics schedules.

Only three titles were announced: Get Christie Love! (1974) and Within Our Gates (1920), both of which can also be streamed free from The Film Detective; and Crackdown Big City Blues, an anti-drug urban drama made in 1990 but not seen in the US until The Film Detective restored it for release on home video late last year. Here’s the trailer:

Besides movies, Soul of the South airs several original series, including morning and late-night talk shows (Great Gospel Morning, Tony King Live), an entertainment news magazine (Blacktree on TV), a political talk show (D.C. Breakdown), a travel show (Secrets of the Caribbean), and a history show (Southern Soul Stories).

How can you watch Soul of the South? Consult its “Where We Are” page for markets served and channel numbers, and then tune in free over the air by hooking up an antenna to your TV set.
