What shows would kids recommend to other kids?
“Matt Chat” is a column in which The Savvy Screener’s Laurie Pasiuk talks to her 10-year-old son Matthew about programs he likes to watch.
In today’s article, Matt chats about Pokémon the Series: Sun and Moon. This anime show, based on the video game, features the adventures of Ash, a boy, and Pikachu, a Pokémon. Netflix offers 43 episodes, but Pokémon the Series, which premiered in 1997, has now aired over 1,000 episodes involving different story lines. You can find more information about viewing options here.
Laurie: Tell me about ‘Pokémon the Series: Sun and Moon.’
Matt: Ash now lives in the Aloha Region, which has even more Pokémon (monster characters from the video game) to catch … and new ones. Ash also likes to meet new friends. Ash lives with Dr. Kukui, because he wanted to stay and his mom agreed. Dr. Kukui is his teacher in Pokémon School, where students are allowed to bring their Pokémon. Also, Team Rocket, the bad guys who steal Pokémon, followed Ash to the Aloha Region.
Laurie: What about the two new Pokémon in this adventure?
Matt: First there’s Mimiku. Mimiku joined Team Rocket because he hates Pikachu, and Pikachu is on Ash’s team. If you look under Mimiku’s Pikachu cloth (he looks like Pikachu, that’s why he hates him) you can die unless someone is with you to wake you up.
Another new Pokémon is Litten (pictured below), who is the first stage of a really good Pokémon called Incineroar. It is very hard for him to get used to you. Incineroar is on Ash’s team.
There is also a new item called the Z Ring. Do a special movement and your Pokémon will follow it to make them do a soultimate, which helps you do more damage in battle.
Laurie: Who is your favorite character?
Matt: I have four favorites: Ash, Pikachu, Mimiku and Litten.
Laurie: Why are they your favorites?
Matt: I like Pikachu because he’s really cute, Mimiku because he kind of looks like Pikachu,Litten because he likes to steal food from people, and Ash because he is one of the greatest Pokémon trainers in the world.
