What shows would kids recommend to other kids?
“Matt Chat” is a column in which The Savvy Screener’s Laurie Pasiuk talks to her 10-year-old son Matthew about programs he likes to watch.
In today’s article, Matt chats about The Thundermans, the live-action series that just completed a four-season run (2013 to 2018) on Nickelodeon.
The Thundermans are a typical suburban family with atypical superpowers. The show centers on the adventures of the 14-year-old Thunderman twins. Kira Koserin plays Phoebe, the good student who looks forward to assuming her role as a grown-up superhero. Twin brother Max (Jack Griffo) aspires to be a supervillain. Where did parents Hank (Chris Tallman) and Barb (Rosa Blasi) go wrong?
You can watch all four seasons of The Thundermans with a Hulu subscription; or buy individual episodes for $1.99 from Google Play and a host of other providers.
Laurie: What TV show do you want to talk about today?
Matthew: ‘The Thundermans.’
Laurie: Why do you like it so much?
Matthew: Because it’s about superheroes in a family.
Laurie: Who is your favorite character?
Matthew: Max Thunderman, because he is a teenage supervillain living in a family of superheroes. He has a pet rabbit called Dr. Colosso, who used to be his parents’ archenemy. But they defeated him and turned him into a bunny rabbit to punish him. Dr. Colosso tries to train Max to be the best supervillain he can be. But he lives in a cage and doesn’t really get to leave the house.
Laurie: Why does that make him your favorite?
Matthew: Because it’s a superhero TV show and he’s the only supervillain in the family.
Laurie: Is he always a villain?
Matthew: Sometimes. Not all of the time. He helps his twin sister, Phoebe, once in a while.
Laurie: What does the superhero family do?
Matthew: They are living as normal people with a normal life. There are two parents and five kids. Phoebe and Max are the oldest. Then there are the twins Nora and Billy. Chloe is the littlest. They all have different powers. The dad is Captain Thunderman, and he flies.
Laurie: What’s one of your favorite episodes?
Matthew: I really like them all. I can’t choose one.
