‘Murphy’ Streams…Finally!

For several months, as viewers anticipating CBS’ upcoming Murphy Brown reboot searched for ways to stream the original 1988-1998 series, The Savvy Screener’s most-read story has been “How to Watch Murphy.” In it, we explained that you could only watch classic Murphy on over-the-air channel Antenna TV since the show wasn’t streaming anywhere.

That situation has now changed!  Finally, you can stream classic episodes of Murphy Brown!

But only a few of them, and not for long.

CBS yesterday said 18 Murphy episodes are now available for a “limited time” on its CBS All Access subscription service.

One episode, though, is free to anyone at CBS.com or on the CBS app: “Funnies Girl,” in which a cartoonist lampoons newswoman Brown (Candice Bergen) after she makes a sexist comment that gets broadcast accidentally.

But what about the other 229 episodes of classic Murphy Brown?

They’re still running on Antenna TV, weekdays at 11pm ET and weekends at 5 pm.

In addition, on Wednesday September 26, Antenna TV will run a Murphy marathon from 7 pm to 11:30 pm.

That’s the day before Murphy Brown returns with its first new episodes in 20 years: on Thursday, September 27, at 9:30 pm ET/PT, over-the-air on CBS stations and streaming on CBS All Access.

Then, on Wednesday, November 14 – the 30th anniversary of its very first episode –Antenna TV will air a full-day Murphy marathon.

As its name implies, Antenna TV is available via an antenna hooked up to your TV set. Visit its “Channel Finder” page for your local station.

CBS All Access offers two subscription plans — $9.99 per month with no ads in on-demand content but commercials presented in live-streaming CBS network broadcasts; and a $5.99 plan with commercials, except for “CBS Classics.” Those classics now include Murphy Brown — for a limited time.
