New Sci-Fi DUSTx Aug. 18

DUSTx, a new sci-fi channel, will launch over Roku on Saturday, August 18.

The channel adds full-length films and TV series to the sci-fi shorts that studio Gunpowder & Sky has been showing on-demand over its Dust service for the past two years at, YouTube, Facebook and Instagram.

DUSTx will kick off with 20 movies, 30 series, and 200 short films.

The movies will include Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure (1989), Paycheck (2003), A Scanner Darkly (2006), and Akira Kurosawa’s Dreams (1990).

The series will include Beyond Westworld (1980), Mystery Science Theater 3000 (the original Joel Hodgson series that began in 1988), UFO Hunters (2008-2009), and In Search of Aliens (2014).

Recently produced shorts include Bad Peter, starring Frankie Shaw (Showtime’s SMILF), which was shown at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival; Rise, starring Anton Yelchin (Star Trek, Taken); and Jonah, starring Daniel Kaluuya (Get Out, Black Mirror).
