What a way to go! GetTV will air six episodes of the The Merv Griffin Show featuring classic female movie stars this Sunday night/Monday morning, and then drop the vintage talk show from its lineup.

The fun starts at midnight ET/9 pm PT with Bette Davis and Olivia de Havilland together, and continues with Joan Crawford, Hedy Lamarr, Jayne Mansfield, Ginger Rogers and Tallulah Bankhead.

Here’s Lamarr on the show from 1969, also featuring Woody Allen, Moms Mabley and Leslie Uggams (this was Griffin’s first CBS episode opposite NBC’s late-night king Johnny Carson):

Lamarr tells Griffin she’s a “very simple complicated person.” But that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Unknown to most at the time, Lamarr had also invented the technology now used for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. For that story and more, The Savvy Screener highly recommends the recent documentary Bombshell: The Hedy Lamarr Story. It’s now available to Netflix subscribers, PBS Passport members, or for $3.99 from other providers.

You can receive GetTV free with an antenna connected to your TV set. To locate your local station, visit GetTV’s “Get the Channel” page.
