Starting this Monday, June 11, on Crackle, two British soccer enthusiasts will offer their own humorous take on 10 national teams participating in this year’s World Cup.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia gets underway Thursday, June 14, with eight groups of four national teams each (32 countries in all) competing.

The US team, unfortunately, failed to qualify, leaving little incentive for Americans, who are notoriously indifferent to soccer, to watch.

Perhaps Brits Roger Bennett and Michael Davies, two British soccer fans known for their NBCSN series and podcast Men in Blazers, can gin up the US TV ratings.

The free streamer Crackle will air Rog & Davo’s Guide to Russia, a series of short episodes, from June 11 to June 13.

Bennett, a sports journalist, and Davies, a television producer, will host 10 four to six-minute episodes. Each episode will focus on one of the following participating countries: England, Argentina, Portugal, Iceland, France, Belgium, Brazil, Spain, Germany and Mexico. The two will also handicap each profiled team, underscored by “high-brow humor and lighthearted fun.”

“Americans will, en masse, cut work for a month and revel in the heroes, villains, and unspooling telenovela-esque storylines which will unfurl game to game,” Bennett said. “This series will provide instantly accessible background, both footballing and cultural, for every fan, both die-hard and newly soccer-curious, so they can savor every second of the action.”

Incidentally, Bennett is also hosting a 12-episode podcast with WNYC radio called American Fiasco, the story behind the US men’s soccer team’s disastrous showing in the 1998 World Cup.

Episodes include interviews with players Alexi Lalas and Eric Wynalda, former head coach Steve Sampson, US soccer officials and journalists. There are also episodes with Big Cat (Dan Katz) of Barstool Sports and Stephen Dubner of Freakonomics Radio.
