Two niche subscription streamers, Passionflix and AfroLife, have announced upcoming originals.

Applegate and Deidrick

Passionflix, a home for romance movies, is adapting K. Bromberg’s steamy book series Driven for a summer premiere. Set in the world of professional race car driving, the film stars Olivia Applegate as “a resilient girl with a tragic past and a heart of gold” who falls in love with a “hot bad boy athlete” (Casey Deidrick). Passionflix co-founder Joany Kane wrote the book adaption, with Passionflix co-creator/CEO Tosca Musk directing.

AfroLife, which provides “curated African American, Afro-Latino, Afro-European and African content,” has picked up The Incredible Life of Darrell from Stage 13. The show’s creator Darrell Lake stars in this coming-of-age comedy. The plot? “A real job is just so…boring when all you want to do is build space equipment.”

Passionflix, which launched last September, is available for $5.99 a month online and via Android or iOS apps. For more info, visit passionflix.com.

An annual subscription to AfroLife, set to launch this month, currently costs $59.70, said to be 50% off the regular price. For more info, visit afrolife.tv.
