Salon Intros Pay App

Fans of Salon.com’s SalonTV can now see ad-free versions of such series as Salon Talks and Salon Stage via a subscription app costing $4.99 monthly or $49.99 annually.

Salon Talks includes interviews with TV creator David Simon (The Wire, The Deuce), documentary director Errol Morris (The Thin Blue Line), actors David Arquette and Patricia Clarkson, and many more.

Here’s a recent talk with author Lee Child:

Salon Stage is a performance series that includes sets by Wyclef Jean, Rapsody, Ani Difranco, Carla Bruni, and a wide range of other acts.

Here’s reggae band SOJA in a recent appearance:

App subscribers can also access Salon podcasts and “a curated documentary series exploring many of the critical political and social issues facing society.”

You can find the new Salon.com app at Google Play and the Apple Store (including Apple TV capability). Salon said the app is also available for Chromecast and Roku, and added that computer users can now “experience an ad-free environment through a highly innovative digital currency option.” Savvy Screener editors, however, failed to find such an option at salon.com.

In any case, you can still stream SalonTV programs free, with ads, at video.salon.com and facebook.com/pg/salon/videos.

SalonTV premieres new programs regularly, such as today’s Salon Stage presentation of the Irish group Celtic Thunder. The show debuts live at 5 pm ET on Salon’s Facebook page.

If you crave more of Celtic Thunder, the group is also celebrating its 10th anniversary on PBS this month. To check if and when the new special, Celtic Thunder X, is airing on your local station, visit pbs.org.
