Animated Trolls

Director Guillermo del Toro, whose critically acclaimed The Shape of Water recently opened in theaters, debuts what is called “Part 2” of his DreamWorks animated adventure, Trollhunters, on Netflix this Friday, December 15. The number of episodes for what is ostensibly season two was not announced.

Trollhunters follows Jim Lake Jr., voiced by the late Anton Yelchin, who is an ordinary boy transformed into a troll hunter by a magic amulet, making him “the champion of both the hidden world of Trolls and his own.”

In his return, Jim “faces new challenges in his continued battle to protect his hometown of Arcadia and the fantastical Troll world he inherited. Jim’s risky decision to enter the Darklands unearths startling discoveries, forcing him and his friends to face gripping consequences as they race to end the battle against evil.”

Mark Hamill, Lena Headey and David Bradley join the cast of voices. Kelsey Grammer returns as Blinky, along with Steven Yeun (Steve), Anjelica Huston (Queen Ursurna), Jonathan Hyde (Strickler), Amy Landecker (Barbara) and Charlie Saxton (Toby).

The 26-episode first season, which you can also stream on Netflix, won six Creative Arts Daytime Emmys, including directing for del Toro and Rodrigo Blaas, writing for Marc Guggenheim and voice acting for Grammer.

You can stream season one now on Netflix; or rent individual episodes starting at $1.99 from Vudu and other providers.
