You can’t have Yuletide cheers without Yuletide scares.

The Christmas season horror story is a time-honored tradition, which peaked during Victorian times and has picked up steam again at the movies in recent decades.

Wikipedia’s list of these films ends in 2015, so doesn’t include three newcomers this year: Better Watch Out, The Elf and Christmas Killers, all of which are available for streaming.

Better Watch Out, about a babysitter defending her 12-year-old charge from a home invasion, can be streamed for $6.99 from Amazon, Google Play and other sources.

In The Elf, available from $3.99 at Google Play or Microsoft, a cursed old toy unleashes a killing spree:

In Killer Christmas, six friends sneak into an abandoned hotel adjacent to a Christmas tree farm. Suffice it to say that things go downhill from there. You can rent the movie from $3.99 at Microsoft or $4.99 at Amazon. Here’s the first six minutes to get you going:
