Netflix is scheduled to begin production next summer on its first original series featuring Colombian filmmakers.

The yet-to-be-named series “will follow a young detective and her partner deep into the Amazon, on the border of Brazil and Colombia, to investigate a series of bizarre murders. They soon realize that there’s more mystery to the jungle than the deaths, as they encounter an enigmatic indigenous tribe with an incredible secret that they will take great risks to protect.”

Ciro Guerra, director of Embrace of the Serpent among other films, will executive produce.

“This is a great opportunity to expand the reach of our local stories and share them with global audiences,” said Guerra.

Netflix plans to release the series in 2019.

Other Netflix projects currently being filmed in Latin America include Ingobernable, Club de Cuervos, La Casa de las Flores, Edha, Narcos, Samantha!, O Mecanismo, O Matador, 3% and Coisa Mais Linda.

Fittingly, you can stream Guerra’s Embrace of the Serpent, also set in the Amazon, with an Amazon Prime subscription. Or you can rent it, starting at $2.99 SD/$3.99 HD, from Vudu and other providers.
