The Core, a visual-laden discussion series examining the horror movie genre, will premiere this Thursday, November 16, on subscription streaming service Shudder.

Host Mickey Keating (director of Psychopaths and Carnage Park) calls The Core “the most insane talk show ever made.” Weekly guests on the 10-episode series will include actor/producer Elijah Wood (Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency, The Lord of the Rings trilogy); director/producer/writers The Soska Sisters (American Mary); and director Rodney Ascher (Room 237, Shudder’s Primal Scream).

Episodes, premiering each Thursday through January 18, will “examine the onscreen techniques and real-life psychologies that strike fear into our very core,” according to Shudder. “Audiences will hear from experts, including criminologists, freak show buskers, and special makeup effects artists, who walk through the skill, technique and splatter behind the genre’s most famous practical effects.”

Shudder didn’t specify the length of each episode, but an already-available Halloween special – featuring actress Danielle Harris (the Halloween franchise) — runs a half-hour.

All-horror Shudder costs $4.99 monthly or $49.99 annually, with a seven-day free trial. It’s available at, or via Roku, iOS, Google Play, Amazon Prime, Apple TV, Fire TV, Xbox One and Roku.
