Free HBO Pilots

To celebrate its launch 45 years ago yesterday (November 8, 1972), HBO has posted free online episodes of its “most legendary series.” Visit to feast on the pilots of such current hits as Curb Your Enthusiasm, Game of Thrones and The Deuce; classics like Oz, The Sopranos and The Wire; and even the one-season flop Vinyl.

HBO’s freebies, though, are really celebrating 25, not 45, years of its history, since it offers nothing older than 1992 – The Larry Sanders Show.

So we’ll go back another nine years, to 1983, when HBO premiered its first original drama series, first original anthology series, and first original comedy series. Here are the first episodes of each:
