Fans of Dirk Gently, the quirky sci-fi detective, have a double treat coming this Saturday, October 14: Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency will start its second season on BBC America, while an older British BBC series titled simply Dirk Gently debuts on BritBox.

Dirk Gently, starring Stephen Mangan as Gently and Darren Boyd as his sidekick, produced only four hour-long episodes in 2010 and 2012. But non-pay TV viewers seeking Dirk can also stream all eight first-season hours of Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency, starring Samuel Barnett as Gently and Elijah Wood as his sidekick, right now on Hulu.

BritBox’s ‘Dirk Gently’:

Hulu’s ‘Holistic Detective Agency’:

Both series are based on the Dirk Gently novels by Douglas Adams.

Hulu now costs $5.99 per month for the first year, with an unspecified free trial period. BritBox is $6.99 per month with a seven-day free trial.
