VR Event to End Poverty

On Saturday, September 23, Citi, Live Nation and NextVR will provide live coverage – in virtual reality – of this year’s Global Citizen Festival from the Great Lawn in New York City’s Central Park.

Although the producers didn’t provide a start time for coverage, the festival is scheduled to begin at 2 pm ET.

The gathering will feature performances by The Lumineers (pictured right) and The Chainsmokers, as well as special guests Big Sean, Andra Day and Alessia Cara.

It is the penultimate event for Global Citizen Week, September 17-23, during which New York City has played host to dozens of events calling on “world leaders” to “commit to deliver a world without extreme poverty by 2030.” More than 60,000 activists are expected to fill the Great Lawn.

Livestream VR coverage will include “Backstage with Citi,” produced jointly by Live Nation and NextVR, including an “interview with Global Citizen founder Hugh Evans and special access to the grounds not otherwise accessible by the public.”

The virtual reality coverage is a festival first.

Since 2012, Global Citizen says it has “taken over 12 million actions and achieved financial commitments worth more than $30 billion set to affect one billion lives by 2020.”

You can view the festival via a Samsung Gear VR headset or Google Daydream, along with a compatible smartphone. To get the app, visit NextVR.

Portions of “Backstage with Citi” will be available on demand – in virtual reality and 2D – on Citi channels. For more information, visit citiprivatepass.com/vr and nextvr.com/LiveNation.
