‘King of the Dancehall’

King of the Dancehall, a drama directed, written and executive-produced by rapper Nick Cannon, is now available on Russell Simmons’s All Def Digital channel on YouTube Red.

Cannon stars as Tarzan Brixton, who “heads to Jamaica to start a new chapter after a major setback forces him to quickly leave town.” In Kingston, he becomes involved with a woman “who introduces him to dancehall culture, and soon discovers a newfound passion for dance. As he works towards rebuilding his life and winning a prestigious contest, his past decisions and a powerful underworld threaten to undermine his journey towards redemption.”

The cast also includes Whoopi Goldberg as his mother, Loretta Brixton; Louis Gossett, Jr. as The Bishop; Kimberly Patterson as Maya Fenster; Kreesha Turner as Kaydeen; and Busta Rhymes as Allestar ‘All Star Toasta.’

The film’s soundtrack includes music by Grammy Award-winning Jamaican reggae dancehall recording artist Beenie Man.

YouTube Red, which costs $9.99 a month, offers original movies and series, as well as a music service. For more info, visit www.youtube.com/red.
