The St. Lawrence International Film Festival recently launched SLIFF Online, choosing a “Filmmaker to Watch” from a monthly showcase of short films and web series.

Here are the first three winners:

March: France’s Pauline Mabille for Ici Ou La-Bas (Right Here or Over There), the story of a young woman’s return home after several years gone.

April: Patrick Biesemans for Embers & Dust, a “thank you card to Orson Welles, imagination, and the importance of mass media communications.”

May: Veteran actor Michael Bofshever making his directorial debut with Echo Park Blues, about a “washed up jazz saxophonist…who has finally written the song of his life.”

Five contenders for the June honor have now been posted, including:

Ace and Anxious, directed by Brains creator Bri Castellini

Faux My Life, a web series from Stephanie Neroes

Murder Go Round: Or Death, Duct Tape, and a Merry Go Round by Austen Sprakes
