Bigelow’s VR Doc

The Protectors: Walk in the Ranger’s Shoes, a virtual reality short from Oscar-winning director Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker), makes its online debut today on Within, whose VR app is available for Android, iOS, PlayStation, Oculus Rift and Steam.

The 10-minute film documents a day in the life of rangers in Africa’s Garamba National Park, who face danger and death as they battle to protect elephants from ivory poachers.

Produced for National Geographic Documentary Films, Protectors will also be available on Nat Geo’s YouTube and Facebook pages starting next Monday, May 8.

Even without a VR app, you can watch The Protectors now at Within’s website. This version is in 360 video, which means you click and drag your cursor to navigate left, right, up and down. To watch the doc in VR, you can use one of three methods explained by Within. You don’t even need a special headset.
