Presidential Intrigue

Presidential intrigue from south of the border.

Last fall Netflix announced plans to bring original Latin American productions to US subscribers. In accordance with those plans, Netflix has now launched Ingobernable.

The drama series, whose title translates to “Ungovernable” in English,  tells the tale of a fictional Presidential family in present-day Mexico. Erik Hayser is President Diego Nava Martinez and Kate del Castillo his wife, Emilia Urquiza, “a woman with a strong personality, conviction and clear ideas.” The First Lady has “big plans to improve conditions for the country,” but “starts to lose faith in her husband” and must “find a way to deal with a great challenge and uncover the truth.”

Judging from this trailer (in Spanish, with English subtitles), Ingobernable looks like an action-packed cousin of another Netflix series focused on the complicated relationship between another fictional presidential couple, House of Cards:

Ingobernable is produced by Argos; created by Epigmenio Ibarra, Veronica Velasco and Natasha Ybarra-Klor; and directed by Pedro Pablo Ibarra “Pitipol” and Jose Luis Garcia Agraz.
