Pro-Inquisition Docudrama?

“Were you taught that the Inquisition was a series of events fueled by religious fanaticism and rife with cruelty and terror?” asks EWTN Global Catholic Network in promoting its original docudrama miniseries The Inquisition. “If so, prepare to be surprised by the truth of what really happened.”

Intrigued? The Inquisition, consisting of four half-hour episodes, can be seen tonight through Saturday at 9:30 pm ET over EWTN’s live stream. The first episode will be preceded by a one-hour edition of EWTN Live at 8 pm with Professor Thomas F. Madden, chair of the Department of History at St. Louis University, and Stefano Mazzeo, producer, writer and director of The Inquisition.

“I wanted to look into why this has such a bad reputation,” said Mazzeo. “Why can’t people see it for what it really is? What surprised me was how in favor of the Inquisition I became.”

The series, filmed on location in six European countries, also promises to reveal “the real reason Galileo got into trouble!”

Here’s an early teaser for The Inquisition, made during the series’ production:
