ABC/Facebook to Stream Debates

ABC News is teaming with Facebook to provide live coverage of the 2016 US presidential and vice presidential debates.

Throughout the day of each debate, ABC News’ Facebook feed will offer live streams featuring commentary from the ABC News team, as well as reactions from inside the “spin” room, “watch parties across the country” and other sources.  ABC News contributors Matthew Dowd and LZ Granderson will start the evening coverage of each debate with a program called Strait Talk at 7 pm ET. Nightline co-anchor Dan Harris, ‘digital host’ Amna Nawaz and Granderson will provide coverage of the actual debates. Each debate will air from 9 to 10:30 pm ET.

To access the ABC News stream on Facebook, visit the network’s Facebook page. The major news networks will also offer free live streaming via YouTube and Twitter.

Techcrunch also reported that NBC News and AltspaceVR will stream the debates in virtual reality. Viewers will need the AltspaceVR app on the Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, or Samsung Gear VR. A 2D version of debate activities will be offered via Mac and PC. Election-themed events will be available starting tonight. You can learn more at altvr.com/nbcnews.

The debate schedule follows:

  • Monday, September 26, at Hofstra University in Hempstead, NY. NBC Nightly News anchor Lester Holt will moderate;
  • Tuesday, October 4, at Longwood University, in Farmville, VA. Elaine Quijano, anchor, CBSN. and correspondent, CBS News, will moderate (this will be a vice presidential debate);
  • Sunday, October 9, at Washington University in St. Louis, MO. Martha Raddatz, ABC News chief global affairs correspondent and co-anchor of ABC’s This Week, will moderate with CNN anchor Anderson Cooper;
  • Wednesday, October 19, at University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Fox News Sunday anchor Chris Wallace will moderate.
