RIP Captain Noah

Captain Noah will sail no more. Played by W. Carter Merbreier, who died Tuesday at the age of 90, Captain Noah steered the kids’ show Captain Noah and His Magical Ark for 27 years (1967-1994) on Philadelphia’s WPVI-TV. Here’s the station’s news report announcing his death.

Captain Noah ran weekdays until 1978, first in a two-hour version and then for one hour. It also ran on weekends until the show’s end. That’s some 3,600 episodes, according to Wikipedia, so you’d think there’d be a complete episode available somewhere online. Alas, the longest excerpt we could find was the following 7-minute clip on YouTube. Enjoy!
